Building your policy

Public liability insurance is important for all trades, in case someone is injured or killed, or their property damaged because of your business. Simply Business offers between £1 million and £5 million in cover, to protect you against this cost.

For your shop premises, buildings insurance covers buildings you own against disasters like fire and flood. Remember that you’ll need separate cover for contents and fixtures and fittings.

Check the details

  • Make sure you read your policy documents carefully in order to understand any exclusions
  • If you rent your shop premises from a commercial landlord, check with them to see if you need your own buildings insurance

If you employ people, even in your own home, you are legally obliged to take out employers’ liability insurance. Failure to do so could result in heavy fines.

“The agent who dealt with my business was very dedicated, considering there were several properties on the policy all with varying requirements. He is an asset to your company.”
