Additional observations

  • 25% of small businesses on the panel were rooting for a hung parliament of some kind during the election
  • Of those who felt a hung parliament would be negative for businesses, the main reasons cited were that it would mean a lack of clear leadership/direction for the UK, and that it would mean continued devaluation of the pound.
  • Slower decision making was also a factor
  • Small businesses were less pessimistic about the impact of a hung parliament on British entrepreneurialism, with about half of respondents saying it would have no impact or a positive impact.
  • The Conservatives were the clear front-runners when it came to the question of which of the main three parties better represents the interests of business in the UK
  • 105 small businesses were surveyed for this research
